What is "Close Reading"?
3 Steps to Close Reading
Step 1: Read the text. Then reread the text.
This is done in order to gain a greater understanding of the author's purpose for writing the story.
Step 2: Have student(s) highlight important information that may need to be recalled.
This step is to ensure that your reader is reading the text and understanding key ideas or main points within the text.
Step 3: Answer comprehension questions by using the text, especially the highlighted information.
By highlighting in the previous step, it ensures accurate answers for this step. Please monitor your student(s) to ensure they understand what is important.
